The Wayne State University Librarians can provide instruction on:
- accessing information efficiently and effectively
- evaluating information and its sources critically
- using and accessing information ethically
which are components of our larger goal of developing student skills in information literacy. An information literate person has learned how to find quality information efficiently and to use it effectively and ethically. It is a lifelong learning skill.
First-Year Student Instruction
WSU does not have a required College Transition/First Year Experience course. Therefore, faculty teaching courses with predominantly first-year students are encouraged to request library instruction for classes that require research projects or papers, so that students will learn how to find and use information sources effectively.
To arrange instruction for first-year students contact Judith Arnold.
Discipline-specific Instruction
Upon request, librarians will provide specialized library instruction for specific classes. Instruction may address search strategy for the catalog and/or discipline-specific databases, help with citation styles and EndNote, evaluating resources, how to find authoritative Web resources, or other research-related topics as requested.
